Achieving sustainability in the city isn't easy to do. There's a lot of traffic, economic activity, high energy consumption, large numbers of people in a small area. But despite the challenges, city authorities – often in collaboration with scientists, the private sector and the residents themselves – succeed in taking steps towards more sustainable cities.
